Increase in the number of will contests?

An article in the Connecticut Law Tribune suggests an increasing frequency of contested wills in that state.   I haven't seen any statistics regarding  will contests in Texas, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least a modest increase over the past decade. What could be causing an increase in contested estates?  The articles points out that heirs and beneficiaries are more likely to fight over money in a difficult economy.  I'd also suggest an increasing awareness of dementia and unscrupulous family members and caregivers also contribute to a greater awareness that some estates are rife with abuse.
